DiVitas Networks Announces Relationship with G-Tek for Early Access to Next-Generation Handset
G-Tek's Dual-Mode PWG-600 Supports Seamless Wi-Fi/Cellular Roaming Enabled by DiVitas' Enterprise Mobility Solution
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (04/17/2006) - DiVitas Networks, a provider of seamless, unified mobility solutions for enterprise networks, today announced that it has entered into a relationship with G-Tek Electronics Group, an innovative handset manufacturer, that gives DiVitas early access to G-Tek's next-generation wireless PWG-600 handset. DiVitas conducted interoperability tests with the PWG-600 using a VoIP-over-WiFi application, in which VoIP calls were handed off from the WLAN to the cellular network and back for seamless roaming over the best available network. G-Tek demonstrated its handset with the DiVitas solution at CeBIT 2006, held in March in Hannover, Germany.
DiVitas' enterprise customers can use the PWG-600, a dual-mode SIP Wi-Fi handset that integrates GSM/GPRS and Wi-Fi modules, to support roaming between Wi-Fi and 2G/2.5G cellular networks. Together, the DiVitas solution and the PWG-600 will offer an end-to-end service with extremely low voice latency and superior roaming. Unlike smart phones based on Windows or Symbian, the PWG-600 is based on Linux, which makes it more cost effective and secure. The handset's highly efficient battery provides four hours of talk time plus 100 hours of standby in GSM-only mode or 10-12 hours of standby when GSM and Wi-Fi are both on.
"Our relationship with G-Tek is an important step toward our goal of making the widest possible variety of handsets available to our enterprise customers," said Vivek Khuller, president and CEO of DiVitas. "DiVitas and G-Tek will continue to work together to bring interoperable solutions to market, and our solution will provide a development platform for launching enhanced communications applications such as CRM in the future."
DiVitas' mobile communications solution, which works in any WLAN environment, with any PBX, and over any type of fixed, mobile, or wireless network, extends the reach of the enterprise by providing seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. The solution also integrates with business and enhanced communications applications such as CRM.
"G-Tek's Linux-based PWG-600 is designed for enterprise users, and working with DiVitas gives us another avenue to reach the enterprise market," said Tom Lin, president and CEO of G-Tek. "As a leader in the smartphone market, G-Tek provides the kind of high-quality, versatile, and cost-effective handsets that complement DiVitas' innovative mobile wireless solution."
