DiVitas Networks Demonstrates Successful Fixed-Mobile Convergence with Symbol Technologies
Unified Mobility Solution Works with Symbol WLAN Environment and Mobile Handhelds to Extend Enterprise Mobility
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (05/02/2006) - DiVitas Networks, a provider of seamless, unified mobility solutions for enterprise networks, today announced that its platform works with select Symbol Technologies mobile computers and wireless network infrastructure products to enable fixed-mobile convergence for mobility inside and outside "the four-walls" of the enterprise.
DiVitas recently demonstrated fixed-mobile convergence for seamless roaming between a GPRS/GSM cellular network and Symbol's wireless network infrastructure at the Gartner Wireless & Mobile Summit in Detroit, Michigan. DiVitas installed its voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN) software application on Symbol's rugged MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA) and rugged MC9000 mobile computer, both with WAN/LAN/PAN connectivity. DiVitas also showcased the seamless "handing-off" of wireless VoIP calls to-and-from the Symbol WiFi network and the GPRS/GSM cellular network, enabling end-users to take advantage of the best available connection. The demonstration also proved interoperability with Symbol's AP300 access port, AP-5131 access point and WS2000 and WS5100 wireless switches.
"DiVitas wants to make it easy for enterprises to adopt our solutions by helping ensure that they work in every network environment and with every type of phone-dual-mode phones, WLAN phones, cellular phones, smartphones, and softphones," said Vivek Khuller, CEO of DiVitas. "Successfully proving interoperability with mobile computers and WLAN equipment from Symbol is an integral part of our strategy to enable businesses to take advantage of the DiVitas unified mobility solution across a range of handheld mobile computers and LAN environments."
"Fixed-mobile convergence is important for vertical industries such as healthcare, where cellular phone use is still often prohibited in hospitals. This is the main reason why hospitals have deployed our secure Wi-Fi infrastructure," said Pat McCullough, vice president and general manager of Symbol's Solutions Division. "By supporting fixed-mobile convergence, we extend the reach of enterprise mobility to help doctors and nurses use a single mobile device for their mission-critical voice and data applications inside a hospital, or around a healthcare campus."
The DiVitas solution transforms mobile computers into universal voice, digital media, and data workstations, eliminating the need for multiple network-specific phones. Designed to work in any WLAN environment, with any PBX, and over any network, the DiVitas solution minimizes the cost and complexity of mobile enterprise communications, while maximizing enterprise control and coverage.
